About
Prep My Art
Are you looking for professional critique to refine your artistic craft before it matters most? Do you have an annual piano exam, dance competition or theatre audition you’re preparing for? Would you like an insight on what the adjudicators might say?
If so, you’ve come to the right place!
Prep My Art is a virtual space where musicians, dancers, actors and artists at any age and every level can submit up to three submissions to be judged by three adjudicators! What the student receives, comments by professionals in the industry that are constructive and unbiased on their work outside of the high-pressure exam, competition and audition setting. We accept submissions from artists of all ages and skill levels.
Our Story
Prep My Art was founded by Sara Aylesworth, who is State Certified through the Michigan Music Teachers Association and Nationally Certified through the Music Teachers National Association in piano. She was inspired to create Prep My Art by recognizing the need for students to understand the continuity between adjudicators’ comments. What do the comments have in common? Why are the writing styles different?
Every adjudicator has a different background which makes this opportunity so unique! One can be judged on the exact same video or portfolio so that they can learn what the judges all see and are looking for to improve.
In events such as exams, competitions and auditions students perform and receive a score for their performance based on a series of technical criteria. This is often the first place where students can receive this level of feedback, making the experience quite nerve-wracking for many.
Sara wanted to build a space where musicians and artists at all levels could submit their work to receive critique from professionals active in the industry to judge in a low-pressure environment. Up to three submissions, for each of the three adjudicators to review.
The BEST part is that they will all review the EXACT same submission.. In turn, these artists can prepare for higher stakes performances, exams, competitions, auditions, and other events, using constructive critique from unbiased, highly trained professionals in the industry to improve their skills.

How It Works
Musicians and artists of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds can submit up to three different submissions. For example, if a piano student has their Student Achievement Test coming up they can submit three piano pieces for judging.
- The first step is to record a performance via private YouTube link, or upload a visual art from your portfolio for review. The first step is to record a performance via private YouTube link, or upload a visual art from your portfolio for review.
- Three independent judges will review the piece and provide their written critique. We have carefully selected a team of professionals who are active in the specific industry you select. Judges will not collaborate or share their thoughts with anyone other than you. Each adjudicator will offer their own unique perspective.
- You’ll be able to review your critique, identify the overall area to improve and gain insight on how to grow in your craft.
